Pioneering Bitcoin Developer Proposes "Bitcoin Mossad" to Safeguard OG Holders
Martti 'Sirius' Malmi, a Finnish computer scientist and one of Bitcoin's earliest developers who worked directly with Satoshi Nakamoto, has proposed creating a specialized security organization called the "Bitcoin Mossad." This initiative would focus on protecting long-term Bitcoin holders from potential threats.
El Salvador as Potential Host
Malmi suggested El Salvador—the first nation to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender—as a potential base for this security organization. The proposal comes in response to growing concerns about the safety of early Bitcoin adopters as cryptocurrency adoption expands globally.
Addressing Security Concerns in Hyperbitcoinization
The discussion gained traction after Vora co-founder Jesse Posner warned about the risks long-term holders might face during "hyperbitcoinization," a scenario where Bitcoin achieves mass adoption. Posner stated, "Hyperbitcoinization will make long-time hodlers the world's juiciest targets."
Alex Stanczyk, managing director at Swan Bitcoin, added cautionary advice, noting that security firms should be careful with their marketing to avoid creating unrealistic expectations for clients.
Malmi's "Bitcoin Mossad" concept represents a proactive approach to protecting early Bitcoin investors who may become high-value targets as cryptocurrency becomes more mainstream. The proposal highlights the growing need for innovative security solutions in the evolving digital asset landscape.
