Ripple Shakes Up XRP Unlocking Routine
Ripple, the enterprise blockchain company, has changed its longstanding approach to unlocking XRP tokens. For years since late 2017, the company consistently unlocked a billion tokens from escrow on the first day of each month. However, since March, Ripple has shifted to releasing tokens later in the month.
March marked a significant change when Ripple introduced a new release schedule. Instead of unlocking new tokens, the company began creating new escrows from its existing XRP holdings. This approach continued in April and May, with Ripple releasing 1 billion tokens on later dates rather than the traditional first-day unlock.
On June 1, Ripple locked 670 million XRP tokens in escrow, coinciding with the token's 13th anniversary. In related news, the company has confirmed it will discontinue its monthly XRP reports, replacing them with occasional updates via social media and blog posts.
Ripple's last quarterly report disclosed the company holds 4.5 billion XRP tokens, with an additional 37.1 billion tokens secured in escrow wallets as of March 31.
