Ripple CEO Emphasizes Harmony Between Crypto Communities
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has clarified that the Bitcoin community is not an adversary to XRP holders. He stated, "The Bitcoin community is not our enemy. They really are not. If they do well, we'll do well…We might do even better. It's not a zero-sum game."
This remark follows years of friction between the two cryptocurrency communities. Garlinghouse recently called out Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis, a prominent Bitcoin supporter in Congress, for canceling a scheduled meeting with him. He encouraged Lummis to champion the broader crypto industry rather than focusing solely on Bitcoin.
The tension extends to Lummis's family, as her son-in-law Will Cole has drawn criticism from XRP supporters for past tweets labeling XRP as a "centralized joke of a scam" in 2022.
Ripple has faced additional backlash after donating the controversial "Skull of Satoshi" to a Bitcoin museum in Nashville. This move reminded many Bitcoin supporters of Ripple's past criticisms of Bitcoin mining operations.
The conflict intensified earlier this year when reports revealed Ripple's lobbying efforts against a Bitcoin-exclusive reserve proposal in the U.S. Political news outlet Politico noted that a key lobbyist connected to a controversial post mentioning XRP in federal reserve discussions was recently removed from White House circles.
