Trump Meme Coin Gala Attendees Receive Coveted NFTs
Attendees and registrants of the recent Trump meme coin gala dinner were rewarded with limited-edition NFTs, some of which have already fetched impressive prices on the secondary market.
The event, held at President Trump's National Golf Club in Washington, D.C., was open to the top 220 holders of the official meme coin of the United States President. Participants were airdropped up to three NFTs, with the rarest "Diamond Hands" edition currently commanding the highest market value, with one sale reaching approximately $16,000.
Even those who registered for the dinner but did not make the top 220 cutoff to attend were given an NFT, with one such token selling for $4,000.
The NFTs, which the official TRUMP meme coin X account described as "historic collector's items that celebrate the Crypto President," come in three tiers:
- Power to the Holders: Sent to 1,049 addresses, including those who registered but did not attend the event.
- Gold Gala Dinner: Sent to 219 addresses belonging to attendees of the event.
- Diamond Hands: Sent to 118 addresses of those who held their tokens throughout the dinner.
Despite the impressive sales, the NFTs appear to have no inherent utility, serving primarily as commemorative collectibles for attendees and participants.
The Trump gala dinner was not without controversy, as more than 100 demonstrators protested outside the event, calling for an end to "crypto corruption." High-ranking U.S. Democrats also raised concerns that the event could open the door to foreign actors buying political influence through the meme coin.
Nonetheless, the event went ahead, with some attendees relishing the hour that President Trump was present, while others were disappointed by the absence of one-on-one time with the President and the quality of the catering.
As for the NFTs, the Diamond Hands edition remains the most coveted, with the sole sale at the time of writing fetching a remarkable $16,000.
